Bite Problems We Treat: Overbites, Underbites, Crossbites & More

Bite problems occur when the upper and lower teeth don’t align properly when the mouth is closed. This can affect how you chew, speak, and even how comfortable your jaw feels day to day. At Davis Orthodontics, we treat a wide range of common bite issues for children, teens, and adults across Upstate South Carolina.

Whether your teeth don’t meet evenly or your bite feels uncomfortable, orthodontic treatment can help improve alignment, function, and overall smile appearance. Our team works with patients in Greenville, Simpsonville, Greer, and surrounding communities to create personalized treatment plans using braces, Invisalign, and other orthodontic solutions when appropriate.

Common Bite Problems

Overbite

An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth extend too far over the lower teeth. While a small overbite is normal, a deeper overbite can lead to enamel wear, jaw strain, or difficulty biting into foods. Orthodontic treatment can help guide the teeth into healthier alignment so the bite functions more comfortably and evenly.

Underbite

An underbite happens when the lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth. This type of bite can make chewing and speaking more difficult and may place additional stress on the jaw. Underbites often develop due to differences in jaw growth or genetics and can be corrected through orthodontic treatment that gradually improves alignment.

Crossbite

An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth extend too far over the lower teeth. While a small overbite is normal, a deeper overbite can lead to enamel wear, jaw strain, or difficulty biting into foods. Orthodontic treatment can help guide the teeth into healthier alignment so the bite functions more comfortably and evenly.

Spacing

When there’s too much room in jaw, the teeth will have gaps between them. This is the opposite of crowding and what is known as spacing. Eventually, significant spacing can result in bone loss and gum disease.

Crowding

When there isn’t enough space in the jaw for all of the teeth, crowding occurs. This can cause teeth to overlap or stick out. Crowding isn’t just a cosmetic concern, it also makes teeth more difficult to clean, potentially leading to tooth decay and gum disease.
