7 Reasons to Consider Lingual Braces as a Treatment Option

By January 28, 2022Blog

Who doesn’t want the latest technology when it comes to their braces? Technology in orthodontics has evolved significantly in the past 15+ years and at Davis Orthodontics, we use the most cutting edge technology in our field. Lower profile braces, wires that allow teeth to move more efficiently, Invisalign®, digital x-rays, and lasers are just a few of the technologies we use in Simpsonville, Greer, and five other SC locations.

One of the most revolutionary technologies for our patients? Lingual braces. “What are lingual braces?” you ask. Also called “hidden braces” or “invisible braces”, lingual braces are a treatment option where custom made braces are placed on the back of the teeth in order to maximize esthetics. Lingual braces are a great treatment option for teens and adults who don’t want the look of braces but want the best results possible.

At Davis Orthodontics, we are proud to be the largest provider of Incognito™ Lingual Braces in the Upstate. Dr. Buddy‘s expertise with lingual braces is unmatched, and he is excited to provide this great treatment option to his patients. With this in mind, let’s dive into reasons for lingual braces as a treatment option. Here’s seven great reasons that hidden braces could be the right choice for your smile makeover.

  1. Lingual Braces are Discreet

Because lingual braces are attached to the backs of your teeth, you can’t see them from the front — like when you smile. So if you’re concerned about the way braces look, lingual braces are a discreet way to get straight teeth on your terms.

  1. Lingual Braces Provide The Great Results Braces are Known For

We all know braces have been around for decades and come with a proven track record. Lingual braces are no exception since they work the same as traditional braces: the interaction between the brackets and wires applies a gentle, continuous pressure that shifts your teeth into their ideal positions. And unlike other orthodontic treatments like Invisalign®, lingual braces are always working because they’re always on your teeth.

  1. Lingual Braces Use Innovative Technology

A third reason to consider braces behind your teeth is that they’re high tech. From start to finish, Dr. Buddy, Dr. Adam, and Dr. Sarah use the most cutting edge digital technology for diagnostics, x-rays, and treatment planning.

Step #1: We take digital x-rays along as well as examine your teeth.

Step #2: We use our digital, intra-oral scanner to take quick, painless scans of your mouth.

Step #3: On specialized software, we use the digital scans to plan out every tooth movement on a 3D digital rendering of your mouth. This is when you get to see your dream smile take shape right before your eyes; it’s pretty exciting to see how your lingual braces “before and after” will unfold.

Step #4: We send your prescription to the lab. They produce your lingual braces according to our instructions. Brackets are made to fit each tooth and the wire is bent robotically to fit bracket placement exactly. Then nour custom lingual braces are sent to our office.

Step #5: You come in to have the brackets bonded to the backs of your teeth and the archwire threaded through. It’s a painless and efficient start to your smile journey!

  1. Experience Comfort and Convenience with Invisible Braces

You know the saying “good things come in small packages”? That’s a perfect description for lingual braces! A thinner wire and small brackets on the Incognito™ hidden braces we offer at Davis Orthodontics make wearing braces more comfortable and less intrusive than in times past.

Now, we’ll be honest, with all braces there is always an initial adjustment period where there might be some braces discomfort… after all, your mouth isn’t used to these extra bits and pieces. But because lingual braces sit behind your teeth, you won’t experience irritation against your lips or gums like you might with conventional braces. However, your tongue might bump up against your braces or feel irritated at first. But rest assured, we’ve found that patients get used to lingual braces quite quickly.

Lingual braces also offer convenience. Since they stay put, you don’t have to worry about losing them and delaying your treatment — a situation that can happen with removable treatments like Invisalign®.

  1. Customized Lingual Braces Means Your Smile is Uniquely Yours

The benefits of custom braces? First, you can be confident that your specific orthodontic issues are treated with precision and efficiency. And with lingual braces, it’s possible to apply brackets only to teeth that need correction instead of your whole arch.

Custom lingual braces also means your smile is designed to enhance your unique facial features. You’ll still look like you, but with a straighter and healthier smile!

  1. Nearly Everyone is a Candidate for Lingual Braces

If you’re a candidate for traditional braces, you’re most likely a candidate for lingual braces too. Lingual braces can treat a range of orthodontic issues, from minor misalignment, gaps or crooked teeth, to more severe problems with overbites, underbites, or crossbites. The first step to finding out if lingual braces are for you is booking a free initial consultation at one of our seven, Upstate locations.

  1. Our Payment Options Make Your Lingual Braces Cost Stress-Free

We understand that orthodontic treatment is a big commitment: of your time, your lifestyle, and your finances. That’s why we strive to make treatment affordable for our patients: we offer interest-free flexible financing, and accept all major insurance plans. And if you have FSA or HSA funds, our team is happy to help you figure out how to put them towards your lingual braces.

So how much are lingual braces? Every person’s cost is as unique as their treatment. Things like the severity of your orthodontic issues and the duration of your treatment are big factors in determining cost. We at Davis Orthodontics do our best to find a solution that’s affordable for your budget.
